• Oonagh McAteer

Featuring Sue Cathcart (Episode No.11)

Sue has been working in mixed media for 30 years; she works primarily with paper, particularly papier mache and makes collages and 3D pieces. Sue is a self taught practitioner, and would call herself a Folk or Outsider Artist. Her work is very colourful and ebullient with diverse and found materials combining with the written word to create pieces that tell or are the story. She completed an English Degree in 1986 from Lancaster University and has taught creative studies for many years before training as a literacy teacher and working as a community tutor. Sue has worked for National Museums Northern Ireland for the past 10 years and now works part time as an Education the Ulster Folk Museum and combines this with her own creative practice.

The Mr Paper’s Corporation

Mr Papers is a satirical rabbit made from discarded materials who comments on society and highlights its decline. Mr Papers has now moved on to creating installations and dioramas of different papier mache characters dealing with unusual scenarios.>

Oonagh McAteer and Zara Lyness, Buoy Park Art is a podcast full of chat about art and artists in Northern Ireland and beyond. Meeting on the Fine Art Master’s Course in Ulster University, Oonagh (BA Photography) and Zara (BA Fine Art) started the podcast as a relaxed platform to encourage inclusive discussions about art and artists and to extend a support network to independent and rural artists at all career stages. The podcasts include invited guests talking about their work and interests and introducing different topics each week, along with the ups and downs of the life or an emerging artist.
